iPad ePub Book Conversions

In addition to assisting authors with traditional and POD (print on demand) publishing, we also convert books to the ePub format from Adobe InDesign, Quark, MS Word and PDF. Books converted to the ePub format can be distributed and viewed on devices such as the iPad, iPhone, Nook, Kobo, Sony and other eReaders and book apps.

The Apple iPad has drastically increased the demand of books in ePub format while quickly becoming an extremely popular and revolutionary device. Using their iBooks app, you can currently access over 150,000 books in the iBookstore. As with the other major online ebook stores, you can access your ePub formatted books from your iPad, iPhone, other smartphone or computer, to read at any time.

There are many automated conversion processes currently available. We do not use or recommend any of them. We’ve tested many of them extensively and have found that we need to spend more time cleaning up the file errors than it would have taken to simply handle the conversions ourselves. And those services that offer a low fee for quick conversions typically come back later to say that the fee has increased. That’s just no way to work, in our opinion.

So what else do we do?

• We’ll help you register to work directly with Apple. Going direct helps you keep a higher percentage of sales than going through a 3rd party distributor/aggregator.
• Validate all files.
• Apple has very strict requirements for their ePubs. And even when an ePub passes the standard validation process, it may still not pass through Apple’s system. We’ve passed enough files to know what to expect and what to look for.
• We’ll handle the upload to the iBookstore for you, using Apple’s proprietary mac-based software, iTunes Producer. If you’re familiar with uploading files for the Amazon Kindle, or B&N Nook, you’ll notice that Apple’s setup is quite different.
